Great video that shows the efficacy of an anechoic chamber. The one in question is at Brigham Young University. Such chambers are used to test new audio equipment, in order to create spec sheets and response graphs.

The host puts himself in the chamber for a while, while running a lav mic; they adjust the gain in post so you can hear exactly what it sounds like. The physiologic responses are pretty amazing!
